2014 Crow River Clean Up Day, August 2014vvv 
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • District Funds: $1,700 Match: $50,500 Total Cost: $52,200
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service purchased a habitat easement on a 140 acre farm located within the watershed. The scope of the project involved a restoration of sixty-two acres of cropland to permanent native vegetation and restoration of four wetland areas totaling approximately eighteen acres. The project area is at the headwaters of a major ditch that flows to Wheeler Lake and eventually to Diamond Lake (an Impaired Water).

Twin Lakes Services Decontamination Unit for Aquatic Invasive Species, May 2013

  • District Funds: $6,133 Match: $5,633 Total Cost: $11,767
  • Twin Lakes Services and The MFCRWD pooled resources to purchase and provide a decontamination system to prevent Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in the watershed. The decontamination system is portable and provides the required pressure and temperature to eliminate AIS from contaminated watercraft and water-related equipment.

School Nature Area Monitoring, May 2012

  • The NL-S Nature Area has a wetland dependent on runoff and precipitation. The School District aims to demonstrate that restoration of native vegetation impacts the water quality and organism diversity in a positive way.

Informational Card – AIS Prevention, New Law, June 2011

  • Prevention of the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Specifically, this grant seeks to prevent zebra mussel and eurasion watermilfoil infestations within the MFCRWD. Funds will be used to print up to 10,000 educational cards and will be distributed at public boat accesses.

Survey and Control of AIS (Eurasian Watermilfoil), October 2009

  • District Funds: $3,000  Match: $7,000  Total Cost: $10,000
  • Green Lake is infested with Eurasian Watermilfoil (EWM), the GLPOA in cooperation with MNDNR is working on documenting EWM locations and treating them. Funding from the District was used to do a survey of the lake.
Feasibility Study for Curly Leaf Pondweed in Nest Lake, September 2009

Lion’s Park Public Education and Shoreland Restoration Project, February 2009

  • Spicer City park on Green Lake had been previously mowed down to the lake. This project restored over 400 linear feet and provides to educate opportunity to the public about the benefits of restoring your shoreline.

  • The GLPOA would like to hire Steve McComas of Blue Water Science to do a survey of Green Lake for EWM. The information provided will identify which stands of EWM to target for chemical treatment.

Hubbard/Diamond Lakes – Fish Barrier, November 2008 
  • Diamond Lake Area Recreational Association (DLARA)

  • Construct a fish barrier in the channel between Hubbard and Diamond Lakes. The existing fish traps will be removed from the channel. When the control structure is complete the barrier will prevent the movement of fish, in particular common carp, from moving between the two lakes.
Diamond Lake Property Owners Waste Water Treatment Assessment, October 2008

  • The project objective is a systematic assessment of waste water treatment processes currently in place for all Diamond Lake properties. Once the project is completed, there will be a comprehensive plan and recommendation for waste water treatment solutions.
